Our wonderful, crazy dog (whose nickname is Bones) is getting his first taste of New Jersey winters. He seems to like them so far!

Argh! Expletive! Curseword! (That’s how I’m feeling this morning).

We’ve been swamped over here at Chez Kline with so much to do and too little time. Ah, the holiday season…

One of my major stressors right now is a paper due this week (actually, it was due Monday, but my kind professor granted me an extension–I’ve never, ever asked a teacher for an extension on anything [hangs head in shame]). I’m writing about a fascinating community in Ethiopia known as the Falashas. If you have never heard about them, check this out. I love being surprised by our world. (Warning: this might blow your mind. Proceed with caution).

I also have to write a reflection paper on my experience worshiping at this church two Sundays ago. I commend it to you.

In other news, Peter and I decided not to provide a list of links to the blogs we regularly read, mainly because we want continue to use this blog as a means of communicating about our music. But, I am a rule-breaker. So, check out my old roommates’ blogs: the ever-lovely Kathleen Stagg and the most wonderfully unusual Carmen Petrick.

And, finally, Peter is falling in love with another woman. But I’m ok with that because I have this guy.

Wednesday Websites (12.12.07)

I’ve become a bit of a New York Times junkie, mainly due to the fact that living in New Jersey is like living in a large suburb of bigger and better places.  We watch Philadelphia’s news and read New York’s paper.  What goes on in New Jersey?  Who cares.  (Well, the mob I guess, and maybe Bruce Springsteen, but that’s probably it…)

So, this week in Wednesday Website madness, I bring you tidings of comfort and the New York Times.  Please to enjoy…

As a seminarian and as a musician, I find this particularly awesome.  I was honored to worship with a traditionally African-American church this past Sunday, and I don’t think I’ve heard music that good bouncin’ around the walls of a church in a long time.  We all could really use the “sound baptism” explored in this article, in my opinion.  When did it become alright to call bad art “praise and worship”?  It’s time to raise the bar, friends.  (And, now I’ll step down from my soapbox).

How someone can enjoy running (as in the exercise form, not as in ‘for election’) is incomprehensible to me.  But, this?  I can dig it.

This is, quite possibly, totally inappropriate for me to be promoting.  But, hey.  I’m a married woman now, so, um, I can dig it.   So, for whatever it’s worth, here.  (Sex sells).

And speaking of sex, I found this article intriguing.  I don’t know if I have an opinion on the matter yet.  But, then again, who am I to judge?  I have yet to pop out any kids.  (Oh, how I wish they would just pop out).   The real moral question here, though, is: why the hell is this article in the Fashion & Style section?  Real classy.

Finally, though I have much love for the Times, this article made me want to bang my head repeatedly against a brick wall.  Seriously, Alessandra Stanley?  You couldn’t think of any better criticism of morning television programs than to resort to the storehouse of  tried and true (and trite!) misogyny?  I don’t know anyone who watches The Today Show or The View looking for hard and fast journalism.  And since you clearly seem to have a handle on what marks journalistic integrity (truth! accuracy! and self-loathing!), keep the fine work coming.  Everyone knows that the only real news on television is found on the Daily Show.

Wow, I’m getting kind of snarky in my old age.  Perhaps I need to lay off the caffeine and step up the Prozac.  Or just read more stories like this.
